I'm too tired to focus on writing a "real" post, so you just get to read random things about me. This is the "grown up" survey that's been going around Facebook.
1. What bill do you hate paying the most?

Praising God in a Storm
This day was not what I thought it would be.
It started out normal. I got to sleep in. James got to open his birthday presents, which he loved! Then Jacob and Daniel headed to Springfield. Usually Jacob would have musical practice, but this week it got moved to last night due to a conflict. He decided that he'd take Daniel will him, and I stayed home with James to play with his new toys and hang out.
I REALLY wanted to stay in my pajamas and even considered it, but then I decided I'd take a shower and get dressed. Didn't put my contacts in. Didn't put any makeup on. I didn't plan to leave the house. I was going to watch Christmas movies and the Iowa game.
I was part way into my Christmas movie when Jacob called. I could tell when I answered something was wrong. Jacob told me they had been in an accident. I heard him. I heard the words he was saying. But it probably took 30 seconds for it to sink in. Then panic started to wash over me. I was choking back tears and trying to figure out what to do. I needed to get to them, but I didn't have a car seat for James. I threw his shoes on his sockless feet and ran over to our neighbor's house. Without hesitation they took James so I could go. Jacob had told me he called 911 and they were on the way. As I was ringing the neighbor's doorbell I could hear sirens. It's a horrible feeling to hear sirens and know where they're going.
The accident happened just outside of town. Another vehicle pulled out thinking they could get across the highway and either didn't see them or thought they had more time. Jacob tried to stop, but there just wasn't time and they crashed.
I got to the end of our street and realized they were working on the road and had to turn around. I had a mini breakdown. I just kept praying. I was so upset because I ALWAYS pray when the boys go anywhere. I pray for God's protection...and today I forgot to pray. I know that's not why they got into an accident, but I still couldn't help feeling upset because I forgot. And I didn't even give Daniel a hug like usual because he was already out the door, so I just yelled, "I love you!"
As I got closer to where they were I could see the flashing lights up ahead. I got turned around and was thankfully greeted by a familiar face. The police officer who was on scene was someone I know. I used to watch his little boy at the Y all the time. He assured me that Daniel seemed okay. He was alert and they had just put him the ambulance.
I don't even know how to describe this feeling. I was literally overcome by it for a couple of hours. It was like I was in a tunnel. I knew what was going on around me but it was fuzzy. Like I could see straight in front of me but a tornado could've blown past me and I probably wouldn't have noticed.
Jacob told me to go ahead and ride with Daniel, so the paramedic helped me up into the ambulance. And there sat Daniel, still strapped into his car seat, neck collar on and playing his Kindle! I was trying hard to not cry, but a couple tears slipped out. He talked with the paramedic and I could tell he really was okay.
We got to the hospital and we were immediately seen. The staff was wonderful. They gave him a Popsicle after the doctor checked him over. Everything checked out, and they said they'd just keep him for a half an hour to an hour to observe. The doctor told Daniel that him being in his car seat was awesome because it kept him really safe. And right then, I didn't care who rolled their eyes at me all these years when I promote car seat safety. God kept him safe, but that car seat did its job too.
Speaking of the car seat...I knew I couldn't take him home in the one he had been in. Car seats after an accident are a no no. Which also meant James would need a new seat as well. So, Jacob stayed with Daniel while I did a quick stop at the house to run to the neighbor's and tell them what was going on. And to clear out all the junk in Jacob's car so I could fit new seats.
I got to WalMart and went into tunnel mode/warp speed. I was hoping beyond hopes that just this once they would have what I needed. I needed the same seat so I could hopefully install it fairly quick, and I knew that I loved that seat. Amazingly the Nautalis was in stock and they had TWO! The display one was all black. Awesome. I pull out the first one, black and pink. Second one? Black and pink. So, my kids will now be rocking pink seats because those suckers are bulky and I'm not in any mood to return them for another color!
Jammed both boxes into the back seat. Drove home. Put one seat in the garage and set to work trying to put together and install the other. I was dripping sweat. I had 4 people texting me and Facebook messaging me so my phone wouldn't shut up, but I finally managed to get it in and get back to the hospital where Daniel had been discharged!
We did a quick stop at the police station to get a few papers we needed and then finally got home, where we got to start dealing with insurance stuff. We got what we could done, and now will need to wait for Monday for a claims adjuster to get in contact with us.
In the midst of all of this, I could be upset or mad that my van may be totaled. Yet, I'm not because Jacob and Daniel are okay and so many good things came out of bad:
*Our neighbor's watched James for 2.5 hours, when they could've said no.
*We found out we don't have car rentals included in our insurance and won't know until next week if the other person's insurance has it. We were going to suck it up and rent a car, which would mean money out of our own pocket, and another trip to Springfield tomorrow. Instead someone sent me coupons for rentals which was awesome. Then a friend messaged me and asked if I'd like to borrow their van that they aren't using for the time being. I mean....talk about a huge blessing!
*I really wasn't sure if we'd get to church tomorrow due to all of this and needed someone to take over my class tomorrow. Not only did another teacher from James' class say that she'd take both classes, but then another person stepped up and volunteered too.
Tonight, I'm choosing to be thankful. I will not let my anxiety take over me. I have zero control over the outcome of anything at this point. It's a waiting game. I have a roof over my head. I have my family all home safe and sound. I have a God who is BIG and kept everyone safe.
Daniel wanted to know why I kept saying that I'm so glad he's okay. I told him, "Because I am!" I also said, "Vans are replaceable. You are not!" In our prayer tonight we thanked God for his protection and we prayed for the other driver and little boy from the other vehicle.
And since he was doing okay, what kind of mom would I be if I didn't get a picture of his first (and hopefully ONLY) ambulance ride?

Golden Birthday Letter
Dear James,
Today you turned 3 years old! You let me sing, "Happy Birthday to you many times, but the first time you laid back down in your bed and covered your face with your pillow. You were in awe of the Blaze and the Monster Machine decorations and the candle in your donuts. While I knew that we would have to wait until tomorrow to open presents, I was glad that I could make your day special at breakfast! You even got serenaded by Daniel's whole kindergarten class!
Each birthday, I can't help but reflect back on your life. I know you're only 3, but it wasn't long ago that I heard your first cries as they whisked you off to clean you up and weigh and measure you. Then a nurse laid you on my chest. You were perfect. I studied you as much as I could and snuggled with you until we got moved and they took you to the NICU. I spent the next 5 days recovering, while walking the floors of the hospital every 3 hours or so to come up and hold you and feed you.
Now, here we are 3 years later. You are an amazing little boy. You adore your big brother and make sure everyone knows that he is YOUR "brudder"! Of course, the older you get the more fights you get into too. It drives me crazy, and yet when I sit back and think, it's how my sisters and I were too. I pray that your love of each other always wins and that you will be lifelong friends.
You have always been fairly good natured. Recently, you've started to realize that you can have more independence and I'm slowly trying to give you more, while also having to deal with tantrums when I won't let you do something dangerous like run with scissors or stick your hand in the hot oven.
You LOVE books, which makes me so happy! You have so many memorized. Your favorites are Pete the Cat, The Pigeon books, The Snowy Day and Llama Llama books. You went as Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons for Halloween, and were the coolest cat in town.
You still sleep with your lovey (burp rags) as you have since you were only 4 or 5 months old. You don't carry them around everywhere like Linus anymore though. Only bedtime. You also have this little blue bunny pillow you got from Mimi and Pa T. at Easter and you HAVE to have it to sleep too. Last month we accidentally left it at a hotel and I had to backtrack to get it for you because I knew you would have been heartbroken. (I would've been too!)
You love going to church...even though sometimes you throw fits about it. You have lots of little friends and teachers who love you! You love to sing all of the songs you learn at church.
You are a horribly picky eater and it drives me insane to try to figure out what to feed you.
You love bubble baths, but you call them "bubble taffs" and it's just too cute to correct.
You always want to drive around after we take Daniel to school and for some reason you've conned me into many drives around the area. We drive through parks, by the lake and sometimes even cruise a country road or two. It's funny because before I got married, I used to go for drives ALL the time. There was no purpose other than drive, think and sing at the top of my lungs. So, doing this with you really takes me back. I don't get much thinking done, but we sing together. You know so many of the current Christian songs and what you can't see is me sitting in the front with a huge smile on my face listening to you belt out praises to God.
One of my favorite things that you say right now is when something isn't working or you can't figure something out, you yell, "Mommy! Something not quite right!"
On the other hand, one of my least favorite things that you say lately, is "No. No. No. You be quiet. Stop talking!" Such a sassy little man. You're lucky you're so cute!

Birthday Love!
These next 2 posts will be dedicated to James because birthdays are a big deal to me! I love celebrating each of my kiddos. My mom always made sure to make our birthdays special growing up, and honestly she still does most of the time. (Take notes mom. I'll be in Iowa for my birthday this next year anyway, you know!?)
Since Jacob won't be home until bedtime tomorrow night, we won't do presents until Saturday, but honestly James doesn't really know about the presents anyway. But, I can't just pretend it's any old day, so of course tomorrow morning I'll sing "Happy Birthday" to him. I can picture it now. I'll start singing and he'll get mad and starting yelling, "Shhh! No, Mommy! You have to be quiet!"
I always decorate the dining room for each boy the night before their birthday, after they go to bed.
James will awake to Blaze and the Monster Machines, and his favorite food...mini chocolate donuts!
And, you better bet he'll have a candle in a donut!
I told Daniel about everything tonight and said it's a surprise for James, so he's really excited. When I told him about the candle in the donut he smiled and said, "Oh! Like that time you put my birthday candle on my toast!?" That was when he turned 4 and I absolutely love that he remembers that.
I really don't know what else we'll do tomorrow. I'd like to find something special to do, but it will also revolve around the plumber who is coming to hopefully fix the pipes under the sink. I asked him today what he wanted to do for his birthday and all he said was, "3!" which is of course how old he's turning. I asked where we should go and he said, "Target!" Ha!
I turn into a sentimental fool every November. I love remembering and retelling birth stories. Click HERE for James' birth story! There's just something so very special about it. All of the baby pictures start popping back up and my heart sometimes just can't take how quickly they're growing.
So, of course I've got to post some newborn pictures of my baby boy.

It's Blog Month, Ya'll!
Remember when I used to blog all the time? This year I've blogged a grand total of 10 times. I think about writing, but then I don't. But, here we are. November 1st. It's National Blog Month, which means yours truly will attempt to publish a post every day this month.
What will I write about each day? Your guess is as good as mine.
November is birthday month around here. I was lucky enough to have 2 kiddos in November. In fact, I had the same due date for both of them, but Daniel came 2 days late and James came 18 days early!
I'm still trying to come to grips with the fact that Daniel will turn 6 and James is turning 3. There's a saying I've seen that is so fitting to how it feels with each passing birthday. "The days are long, but the years are short." I TRY to embrace every stage. I'm not saying I'm successful at that. Some days my patience is worn so thin that I imagine a vacation alone. But every stage has its good and its bad. It's about finding the good and embracing it.
Daniel is loving kindergarten. We had a wonderful conference with his teacher last week and he's doing amazing. I love his teacher. I prayed that God would place him with the right teacher and he did. She's loving, but no nonsense. It's exactly what he needs. He seems to enjoy just about everything he does at school. I've already gotten 2 calls from the school nurse from playground injuries. That boy is just like his mama. He hit his head on the slide one day and other day he walked directly in front of a swing and got kicked in the face! He got to ride on the school bus for the very first time a couple of weeks ago on a field trip to the pumpkin patch. It was kind big for me too since I always have the kiddo strapped into a car seat. He loved it and we all enjoyed our morning at the patch.
James likes his freedom at home when his Bubby is at school. He constantly wants to know when we're going back to get him though. Then they get home and promptly start fighting and trying to kill each other. They're best buds though...even if they don't always show it.
He loves books and has a lot of his favorites memorized. He can spell a few words. Oddly...as I typed this he started singing a song where he spells red. He is generally good natured, but as he nears 3, he's becoming increasingly stubborn and sassy. He wants independence. He has zero interest in potty training. And he's a horrible eater. Like, I'm to the point of seeing if we can get referred to an eating specialist. But, homeboy does LOVE his donuts. He's downright possessive of those babies.
Speaking of the whole, not potty trained thing, I have to wrap this up due to a pungent smell wafting my way... Joys of motherhood.
