Kissin' and Rollin' and Sippin' and Sleepin' :)

Many things have been happening in the World of Daniel!

Literally 2 hours after my last post about how Daniel was SO close to rolling over, he rolled over! Jacob was watching TV, I was sitting in the chair messing with my phone and Daniel was playing under his play mat. I glanced down at him at one point and that little guy was just layin' there on his stomach like it was totally normal! We of course got super excited and tried to get him to do it again. Of course, being a baby he wanted nothing to do with repeating something for our pleasure. In fact, he didn't roll again for about 4 days. Then when he did, he did it in his crib about an hour after I put him to bed. He woke up completely freaked out by it! He's still not rolling every day, but he has done it several times!

He also gives kisses now. It's so stinking adorable. We'll ask for one and most of the time we get a slobbery kiss on the cheek. Then we say, "THANK YOU!!!" and he responds with a big happy smile. I'm positive that he gets it.

He many not even be quite 5 months old yet, but I've also introduced him to a sippy cup.

I've only tried twice now. Once with a little water to see what he'd do, and once with some breast milk. He enjoys chewing and sucking on it, although he doesn't seem to get a whole lot out. He refuses all bottles though and I need him to be willing to take something for the couple of days that I'm going to be gone in the next couple of months.

Speaking of that...that first day leaving him in a few weeks is going to be hard on me. I've never left him more than a couple of hours and this time it will be for over 12 hours...probably a bit longer. I'm sure I'll cry, but I know it'll be okay. On the bright side, I'm getting to spend a day with Jacob (and a bazillion middle school kids), plus getting to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe and see the Blue Man Group again, and I'm super excited about that!

Another big accomplishment this week with Daniel has been sleep! Glorious sleep. I decided on Monday night that I was going to attempt to let him cry in out in his crib. I laid him down at 10:15 and he started crying a few minutes later. I told Jacob I would wait 20 minutes before going in to calm him. It was hard hearing him cry. The funny thing is, I had NO problem letting other people's kids cry it out for nap time at daycare. But, with him I said it felt like he was crying, "Mommy! Where are you???" Then a miracle occurred. Jacob and I were laying in bed and I realized I hadn't heard any crying so I flipped on the monitor next to my bed. Silence. I waited another 5 minutes and went to check on him. He was sound asleep, laying sideways and on his stomach. I carefully flipped him back over and there he slept until 5:15! For some reason at that point his alarm went off on the monitor saying there was no movement in his crib. I high tailed it in there and he was fine. Scared me, but thankfully everything was okay. He ate and went back down for another 2 hours!

The next night he cried for 5 minutes and slept the same time frames (minus the alarm going off!). The 3rd night there were no tears at all! He just smiled at me, talked to himself and went to sleep. He woke up at 4:00, but went back to sleep after eating. And then last night he again went to sleep on his own! This time he woke at 2:30. Not sure why, but hey...I'm getting longer periods of sleep so I really can't complain!

Anyway...that's about all for right now. We're heading to Olive Garden tonight for an early birthday supper for me! YAY!

  1. Your Daniel would be hard to "be left" for a minute I am sure. It is good though you will be with your hubby and the kids. When you get home you will "give him so many hugs and kisses"! Your are A GREAT MOM!!!
