So Long October!

Here we go! I asked if I should continue on my tradition of trying to blog every day in November, and it was an overwhelming yes. (All 16 of you..ha!)

I'm always sad to see October end. It's my favorite month of the year, and although it started off kind of hot, it ended perfectly. For some reason this October in particular seemed to fly by. We were constantly on the go, but I still got to enjoy so many moments. I am all about making memories with the boys.

The start of the month was a little bumpy. I had hyped up the Homecoming Parade and that we were going to Iowa. The boys and I were excited about both. The day of the parade, James woke up at 12:30am with a shriek, followed by Daniel racing in to tell me that James was puking. My entire day was spent catching puke in a bucket and doing laundry, while praying he'd be okay to travel the next day.

I did end up getting to take Daniel to the parade, even though James was a little bummed.

We were able to make the trip to Iowa the next afternoon, although I didn't decide we were for sure going until 10:00 that morning, and if you know me, I like to pack the night before...but I got 'er done.

Iowa was fun, but we didn't get to do much as planned because it decided to rain the whole time we were there. I did get to enjoy the changing colors because they start earlier there. No pumpkin patches for us, but we made our own fun. The highlight was my sister and her boyfriend getting engaged! I knew it was coming, but didn't know quite when. I'm so excited to be gaining a brother...whose names is also James.

Daniel's school had a family literacy night for each grade, and so we got to attend 1st Grade night. Both of the boys had a great time.

I had been wanting to redo the boys' bedroom for awhile and transform it into a baseball theme. My amazing friend, Leslie came over one day and painted the room for me. I know people say that I could do it..and I'm sure I could, but I don't have the patience and I'm clumsy. There would have been a huge mess involved. Instead I got to sit back and chat with my friend, while she did all the work!

I was actually really sad a few days before because painting the room would mean taking down this quote that has hung in their room since I was pregnant with Daniel.

I'll tell you what though. Getting that quote off the wall was the biggest pain in my butt. It took me a good 45 minutes to get it off and scrub the sticky adhesive off the wall, and by then I was over it. I'll always have the picture though. And now we have a beautiful blue bedroom, although I don't have pic with all of the decor up yet!

The following week my parents came to help me with the boys room (we got James a big boy bed...so long crib/toddler bed) and to hang our Christmas presents (new curtains for the living room and dining room. I thought the bedroom would be the easy part and the curtains would be trickier. Nope. The bedroom was tricky because the bed is longer than the crib, and we had a to find a way to get both beds to fit and have the room be functional and not look stupid. I may have cried from stress at one point, but in the end we found a way that worked, and I honestly love it more now that I did when it was arranged the other way!

We had planned to go to the pumpkin patch on that Saturday, but it was supposed to be windy and we just weren't sure. We finally decided to go for it. 40mph wind gusts, but we still had a fun time, and none of us blew away.

Daniel was losing his voice by the end of the day and I knew he either had a cold or allergies, but he was feeling fine a few days later other than a runny nose. There was no school on Thursday and Friday for conferences....which went amazing for both boys. It's so good to hear that your kiddos are doing so well in school.

By Saturday, Daniel was lethargic, and stayed in his jammies all day. He SMELLED sick. A trip to urgent care on Sunday ended with a strep diagnosis, and that resulted in a 5 day weekend for the kiddo. Although by Monday after the meds had kicked in he was totally fine, so I took advantage of the beautiful day to take pictures at the park. I'll spare posting a ton of them here, but a few of my favorites:

Halloween parties took up our Tuesday, followed by me deciding to take the boys around to 4 trick or treating events, because apparently I'm crazy!

And to finish off the month, a night at church for Trunk or Treat. This was the first year we helped. We teamed up with our Life Group and then were able to take turns taking our kiddos around to trick or treat as well. It was an almost perfect night. Only a little chilly. The boys and their friends had fun passing out candy. It was nice to end the month with friends!
