Picture This

Today I took Daniel outside for an impromptu photo shoot. I love having a little model at my disposal.

These are my favorites of the bunch:

I had been feeling a little guilty, well I don't think guilty is quite the right word, but I was a little bummed that I hadn't had any professional pictures taken since he was 3 months. I know a lot of people do newborn, 3,6,9, and 12 month pictures in the beginning, but it's crazy expensive to get pictures done that often. I know that JCPenny has great deals each month, but then they sucker you into buying more than one pose and it adds up.

I know that I'm no professional, but let's face it, neither are most of the people working at JCPenny.  The girl who did Daniel's pictures did a very nice job with him, but I sat there the whole time thinking, I could TOTALLY do this.

I've grown tired of my point and shoot camera, but it's convenient on the go. I've fallen in love with Jacob's Canon Rebel.

My mom kind of encouraged me just to take pictures on my own. I mean, jeez I take a million of my kid anyway! Today was as good of day as any to try it out. She had even given me the idea to use our neighbor's falling apart garage as the background and I love it! (That's the only time I will say I love their garage, because it's a piece of junk, filled with more of their hoarder junk.) The vertical one of him with the baseball turned out to be my favorite. I will probably end up making an 8x10 of it. I'd say I did a pretty good job. I didn't get as many smiles as I had hoped, but he doesn't always smile a lot outside because he's taking everything in. I'm going to try and get more at my parent's house next week. They have a field right behind the house and I think I can get some really good ones there too.

I know I post a ton of pictures of him, and it probably annoys people, but I don't really care. I figure they can block me. I block other people when I get annoyed. Ha ha! I've been told that I won't take as many pictures of our next baby. Honestly though, I probably will. I've always been a photo junkie and my obsession has only grown since I went digital in 2005. I have LOADS of pictures backed up.

I've always kind of wanted to be a photographer, but in the back of my mind I've had this fear that if I ever do it, I won't like it anymore. I burned myself working in daycare to the point where I think I'd would cry if I ever had to work full time in one again. Now that I typed that though, I realize I didn't burn out on babies really, it was more the "politics" of the job.

Admittedly, I will need more training in photography. It's something I'd like to learn more about in the future. I really only have the desire to photograph babies and young children, but maybe someday I'll do just that.

For now, you're all "stuck" looking at my cutie pie. :)
