The Cute Things My Kiddo Does

Daniel amazes me. I just feel like all of a sudden he's learning so many things. He doesn't say a lot. Well...he DOES say a lot, but it's in Daniel language. He does have a few words, but he doesn't really use them consistently. He understands a lot though. I feel like he does something new every day. I figured that it's about time for me to document some of those things.

My very favorite thing right now is that he is OBSESSED with brushing his teeth. He loves it! One day last week I was walking through the bathroom with him and he got really agitated when we walked out. I went back in with him and he reached for his toothbrush. I asked him if he wanted to brush his teeth and he got this huge grin on his face. Now each night after I put his jammies on I say, "Now we're going to go brush your teeth!" He gets super excited and walks to the bathroom. I sing the "Brush Your Teeth" song while we do it and he grins from ear to ear!

Although, yesterday while I was changing his diaper around lunch time, he grabbed his hair brush. I asked if he was going to brush his hair? All he heard was "brush". I put him down and he ran to the bathroom door and started shaking it. (We have accordion style bathroom doors). Then turns around and made me pick him up. Yep. So we had to brush his teeth. Silly boy!

Let's see. If we ask if he wants to eat, he scurries over to his high chair.

If we ask if he wants to go bye bye he goes to our shoe bin, opens the lid and retrieves his shoes. I'm also fairly certain that he says shoes. Sometimes he goes to get them even if we aren't going anywhere. He must think if he gets them, then surely we'll take him somewhere!

He dances and it's stinking adorable. Anytime he hears music he stops what he's doing to listen. Either his feet start tapping or he stands up and bops up and down.

He plays "Peek-a-Boo"! Both by hiding and then popping out and by covering his eyes and pulling them away! We say, "Where's Daniel?" and he covers his eyes and then peeks with this huge smile on his face.

If I say, "There's the mailman!" or "The mail is here!" He runs to the window and peeks out at the mailbox. Then he helps me get it. Today the mail came while he was napping, but I waited for him to get up. It's our special routine. :)

There are so many more things, but those are some of my favorites. It's so fun to watch his learn and grow. It's still amazing to me that he's 14 months old! He's pretty much the best little boy a Mommy could ever hope for. :)

Tales of the Sickies

It has been a rough few days here at home. Daniel has now survived his first battle with the stomach flu. (Fingers crossed the worst is over anyway).

I knew he seemed off on Wednesday, but was acting normal up until he woke up really early from nap screaming his head off. 2 hours later, I knew why. My living room carpet and my sweet little boy were covered in puke. I don't even know how he had all of that in him! This happened 7 times in a 4 hour span. The second time, I got puked on. After that I kind of started recognizing the signs and was at least able to catch some of it (with blankets and towels) before it all hit the floor. It was a rough evening all around.

He slept amazingly well for a sick little dude. I had already called into the Y the day before, and Daniel seemed to be doing fairly well. He played and ate a few crackers here and there. I was able to do some cleaning and get some things done around the house while he played and napped. Plus I got to talk to Jolene! She had called me the night before and left me such an encouraging voice mail because she really felt for us dealing with Daniel being sick for the first time. I was going to text her to say thank you and then I decided that I needed to call her. It just really meant a lot to me that she called. I don't hear much from my friends back "home" (half my fault...I stink at phone calls). It was nice chatting with her. Made my heart happy. :)

I went grocery shopping when Jacob got home and I kept having this queasy feeling and having hot flashes, but I was hoping that it was all in my head since I had spent the night before on puke patrol. We had pizza for supper and I felt okay, but still a little off. Daniel had some crackers and a few bites of banana. I went to get a washcloth and came back to find his whole tray filled with puke. Darn!

I called into work again so they could find a replacement for me. After that Daniel was just down and out. This boy is NOT a snuggler. He will sit in your lap for 2 seconds and then want down. Well, he climbed in my lap at 6:30 and just stayed there. At 7:15 he was snoozing in my arms.

He was up once, but went back to sleep pretty quickly. I woke up around 7 and that's about when sickness hit me. It was a rough few hours. Daniel had basically slept 12 hours and within a half an hour of being up he fell asleep on the living room floor. This doesn't happen around here either!

For as crappy as I felt, and as sad as I was that Daniel was still sick, there was a part of me thankful that he was not 100%...because he snuggled ALL DAY. Which meant I didn't have to chase him around and keep up with him. We both got to relax. When he was up he would just cry and cry. He barely ate and barely drank. Thankfully he'll still nurse well. I still ended up calling the doctor and they squeezed us in. Stomach flu and upper respiratory virus.

At almost the 24 hour mark of no puking, Daniel laid down on the floor and was crying. Next thing we knew...volcanic eruption. :( The rest of the night involved a bath and LOTS of snuggles. He literally slept almost the entire day. He was up maybe 4 hours in a 24 hour period.

Today he woke up happy. Jacob said he was chattering away in his crib. We even got smiles! Jacob went to Springfield to a movie and Daniel and I stayed at home. He kind of deteriorated as the morning went on and was down for a nap at 11:30.

Around 2:30, he was up and playing. He went to the front door and then brought me his shoes. It was 54 degrees out so we went on a short walk. He loved it. Then he and I sat out on the porch swing for awhile and watched the cars go by. All of that wore him out and by 4:30 he was asleep on the couch.

He woke up an hour later and never recovered. We snuggled. He wouldn't eat anything for supper. I We tried to get him to play and it resulted in this:

Now he's sleeping again. I'm praying tomorrow he's feeling better. I LOVE all the snuggling, but I'm so sad. I miss his giggles and silliness. It really breaks a Momma's heart to see her baby sick.

Randomness of the Weekend

It's weird getting back into a regular routine again. I had Jacob home for 2 weeks over Christmas break and it was nice! He helped with Daniel in the mornings and even kept him home with him several days when I went to the Y. Daniel had lots of fun having Daddy time.

Jacob went back to work on Friday for a teacher inservice. We decided to go back to Springfield that evening because his money and gift cards were burning a hole in his pocket!

We of course couldn't pass up the opportunity to use one of our gift cards at Olive Garden. Once I again, I must brag on our child. He is seriously the best kid ever when we go out to eat! We always laugh because they stick the large groups of people and the people with kids clear in the back. Oh well! Mr. Picky Eater apparently knows that the Olive Garden cooks better than I do. He ate a bunch of my soup, almost a whole bread stick and some of my chicken scampi noodles! He also smelled like a bread stick for the rest of the night!

We stopped at Disc Replay because Jacob wanted to trade in some more of his stuff for cash. While he did that, Daniel and I went to Kohl's, but I didn't have much luck finding anything I wanted.

Next we headed to Best Buy again. Poor Jacob...all this Christmas money and gift cards and they didn't have what he wanted, so he left empty handed.

Then we went to Target, to see if they had what Best Buy didn't. They didn't have anything either, so we went to WalMart. Jacob had given me a gift card to get New Girl and they had it in stock! Woohoo! As for Jacob? He couldn't find anything. Poor guy. He was all excited at the start and totally bummed at the end!

We got in line to pay and I couldn't believe it when I looked at my phone and realized it was 8:40! 40 minutes past Daniel's bed time and we were still a half an hour from home. Amazingly, he had been absolutely perfect the whole night! He got a little fussy in line, but I couldn't resist buying him a treat. Does this boy have me wrapped around his finger or what!? He enjoyed Teddy Grahams all the way home. :)

I seriously can't remember what we did all day on Saturday, so we must have just hung out.

Yesterday I was down to work in the nursery at church. Jacob decided to stay home, so Daniel stayed with him. We're not loving our church. It really doesn't even feel like "our" church. Just a place we go on Sundays. Ugh. I don't know what the answer is really.

We hung out at home for the rest of the day. Daniel has been in the best mood since he has gotten better. Makes me so happy to see him playing and giggling. He still amazes me and melts my heart every day. I'm SO proud to be his Mommy.

Today at the Y it was C-R-A-Z-Y. I had 18 kids. 18. Between the ages of 1 and 8 (even though it's supposed to be 6 years as the cutoff, my supervisor allows it). Remember my first day when I almost died with 13 (and had a complete meltdown?) Well...I handled this much better. I had more control (as much as 1 adult can with that age span). I took a lot of deep breaths and thanked God that school in Taylorville starts back up tomorrow! I also told myself if I stayed calm I could get a caramel frappe afterward. The kids were amazingly all picked up by 11 which almost never happens. (The nursery closes at 11:15). I still dinked around and cleaned a bit. I wasn't losing a little bit of pay after all those kids I watched!

Anyway, we survived. We came home and had lunch, vacuumed, did a bit of laundry and then did something I have a hard time doing...RELAXED. I got hooked on Parenthood and watched 4 episodes this afternoon! Hopefully I can get some more relaxing in tomorrow. :)

Christmas Catch Up

I guess I can officially say that the Christmas season is over!

I never posted after Christmas Eve about the rest of the holiday. We had a wonderful Christmas at home on Christmas Day. It was fun just being the 3 of us again this year. Daniel was far more active this year than last. :) He loves to unwrap and does so by pulling the paper off little piece, by little piece. He knows how to make Christmas last!

We opened our stockings from each other and from my parents (My mom mailed our gifts so we would have them on Christmas Day! She's awesome!) Then opened a few gifts. By that point Daniel had become a bit overwhelmed with the whole process, and we figured he was hungry, so we took a breakfast break. I made blueberry muffins and a breakfast casserole. Yummy!

Then it was back to the gifts again. Daniel was spoiled, but we were too. We got lots of nice gifts, both from each other and from my parents.

One of the favorites of Christmas was "My Pal Scout" He and Daniel have become quite good friends. :)

Just a very fun day with my little family!

Then, the next day my parents came for a short visit. Daniel had been getting sick, but that evening the poor little guy had a fever. He tried his darndest to be happy. He kept going from happy to sad.  He helped Grandma and Grandpa open their Christmas presents.

He had lots of fun playing with his toys and showing off on Friday. Plus he's looking forward to Grandma coming back for the weekend in a few weeks! (Not to mention she and Aunt Kendra are coming again in February! YAY!!!)

Plus I have to throw this is! I love it!!

Then last Sunday we went to Villa Grove for Christmas! We left early in the morning so we could get to church there on time. Daniel was such a good boy and had a great time playing in the nursery. He didn't even care when we came to pick him up...he just kept playing. Silly boy! I'm so glad that he's so easy going.

Rachel and Micah drove down from MN that day and got there by mid afternoon. We really enjoyed getting to see them and glad they got to see Daniel again! Unfortunately Daniel was still not feeling great, which meant he was fussier than usual, but he was still a very good boy!

Although he had a rough night. I had the pack n play set up in the living room and Jacob and I were sleeping on the couches in the family room. I wasn't feeling great either. I had a sore throat and stuffy nose and was hoping for a good night of sleep. Wouldn't you know, he was up at midnight! (And I was drugged up on Tylenol PM). I got him back down by 12:30 and just as I was drifting off again, the crying started again. Got him back to sleep...30 minutes later, awake again. This time he freaked out, so I dragged the pack n play into the family room praying that he hadn't woken everyone up! He finally fell asleep with me around 2:30 and then I laid him down around 3 when he was whimpering. Thankfully after that he slept until 8 and so did I!

We had a delicious "Christmas" breakfast! Then opened presents! Daniel did well for a bit, but again got overwhelmed. In the end Jacob and I opened the last few gifts for him!

AWESOME movie!

Stealing Uncle Micah's Christmas presents!

Then we had Christmas dinner and headed for home. Daniel wasn't a fan of traveling in the dark, so he was a bit fussy, but perked up once we got home!

Thankfully he's feeling so much better and is back to his old self now! I finally took Christmas down yesterday. I had been putting it off. It took awhile, but our living room looks so big now! I always love that.

Another Christmas over, but as always, I look forward to the next!

A Brand New Year

I rarely make resolutions, because I don't follow through with them, but then I thought maybe I should at least think of some goals that I have. I need something to work toward.

1. Save more money and not waste it on piddly things that I don't need. I'm pretty good at telling myself no, but occasionally I buy stuff and wonder why later.

2. Save money by cutting back on fast food. That is a money sucker around here. We're both fast food addicts and even with a budget, that's the one we consistently blow each month. I think I'm going to start a cash envelope for that. I'll take the money out at the beginning of the month and once it's gone, it's gone.

3. Work on reading my Bible more consistently and growing closer to God again. It's been far too long since I've had the relationship I want. I struggle a lot in believing. I do believe...I just question a lot of things and I should probably learn to let some of that go. It's just hard sometimes. I want to be a good example for Daniel.

4. Be an even better wife and mom. I feel pretty good about my mommy skills, but I know there's always room for improvement. I KNOW I need to work on being a better wife. I want Jacob to never doubt how much I love and care for him.

5. Buy gifts through out the year so I am not stressing at Christmas time!

I know I have more, but these seem good for now. :)
